After crossing the border, you must register your visa up to 3 days (excluding holidays and days off) or you will have problems leaving Russia or when police stop you in the street to check your documents (you will have to pay fine and you could be deported from Russia and couldn’t apply for visa for about 5 years). It could be registered either by the hotel you’re staying in or, if it’s not possible (in case you’re not staying in a hotel), by the company that issued your invitation (visa support), or by a local registration office if you was invited by some person (UVIR, the worst way – to complicated and take long time even for Russians!). If you just buy visa from some company, you should ask a question about registration who and in what way will register you in Russia. We strongly advise you to register visa!
